In 1949, when the People’s Republic of China was founded, there were only 3,760 formally trained physicians in modern medicine across the country, with one hospital bed for every 6,000 people. At that time, the infant mortality rate was 20%, and the average life expectancy was just 35 years. However, even today, it is no exaggeration to say that China’s healthcare system remains in a development phase. Among the more than 38,000 hospitals in China, there is a severe shortage of hospital presidents with global thinking, directors of clinical departments with international mindsets, and outstanding young doctors in Grade III Class A hospitals. In fact, every hospital is composed of various clinical departments and the primary task of a hospital is to build strong departments. The core of departments’ development lies in a well-structured organization. Secondly, talent cultivation is crucial. You need both international and localized talent training programs. You cannot just assign people to departments and let them grow at will. Each department should implement a systematic training system. Third, there must be multidisciplinary collaboration. Each department should work closely with pathology, radiology, laboratory medicine, and other departments to deliver precise diagnoses for every patient. Last but not least, the essence of healthcare lies in kindness, compassion, care, and helping others. Truly exceptional doctors are those of moral nobility and inner refinement. In China's 5,000-year cultural heritage, we place greater emphasis on person integrity. What is the highest form of integrity? It is the ability to earn unwavering trust at all times. Departments should therefore build a foundation of trust-based medical care with patients. What convinces me is that our dedication to this work holds profound value for China's healthcare development.
