Valley Contemporary Dance Company is a group of professional artists that collaborate to creatively tell stories using various artistic mediums to propel our ideas forward. Our mission is to combine dance with mediums such as film, music, spoken word, video, incorporating local artists from the Hudson Valley Community. VCDC shares a home with The Hudson Valley Conservatory of Fine Arts and The New Rose Theatre, Walden, NY. Together our working relationship helps build strong artistic careers for young adults and provides the community with professional productions in a variety of artistic genres. Under the artistic direction of Paige Constable, VCDC is comprised of 5 company members, 4 apprentices, and several guest artists.

VCDC earned a 2010 County of Orange Arts Grant for their ‘Women Who Rock’ series. This series debuted in July 2009 premiering, ‘Janis Joplin: Pearl’ and encored in July 2010 with the additional production of ‘Lady Day: A Tribute to Billie Holiday’.

“’Janis Joplin: Pearl’ explores the dichotomies of her world as this multi-media event pays tribute to one woman’s trail-blazing example of triumph…‘Pearl’ is destined to be one of the most extraordinary events leading up to the 40-year anniversary of Woodstock.” .

‘Just cause’ a piece showcasing physicality, technique, and endurance was commissioned by ASEID Contemporary Dance. It debuted at Merce Cunningham Studios, NYC in May 2010. VCDC’s ‘Just cause’ was later invited to perform at’ MixTape, Vol. 3’ in June 2010 in NYC. VCDC also participated in ‘The Empty Place at the Table’ in 2009 at Kean University, Union NJ. This event honors women and children who have died as the result of Domestic Violence. ‘Fearless’ debuted to honor these victims, and VCDC continues to contribute to this cause. In addition, VCDC has also donated their time to the Haitian Relief efforts. ‘Wonderwall’ a piece reflecting strength in times of crisis and chaos, was chosen to perform.

Together with musicians, video artists, dancers, set designers, and other media artists, VCDC continues to collaborate with fellow artists in the Hudson Valley Community. We are slated for our third season beginning January 2011 with a full-length production scheduled for this summer.
